Review of the Mylee Nail Polish Starter Kit

The at-home manicure has become a beloved self-care ritual for many. It’s a simple and quick way to feel confident and energized, even while relaxing around the house. Personally, I adore a good DIY manicure, but for a while, the process felt more stressful than relaxing, with tediously slow drying and glossy nails that took away from the joy of the experience.

That’s when I discovered Mylee’s Gel Polish Starter Kit, a highly popular product online that promised flawless nails as if they had been done in a salon. Intrigued, I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

So, did it live up to my expectations? In this post, I’ll share my thoughts on the Mylee Gel Polish Starter Kit, as well as a few tips for applying gel polish at home.

Here's how to use your Mylee Gel Polish:

To gently push the cuticles back, use a cuticle pusher. Use cuticle nippers to trim the excess.

To create the nail shape you desire, use a nail file

Use a polishing pad to smoothen your nails. The gel varnish will stick better if you do this.

Use the Prep + Wipe to clean every nail.

Use a thin coat of base coat. Allow to cure for at least 30 seconds.

For another 30 seconds, apply a thin coat of the colour polish. You can repeat this process to increase opacity.

Apply your topcoat. Allow to cure for 60 seconds.

To remove any tackiness, you can use a lint free wipe (soaked with Prep + Wipe).

Price

Mylee Gel Nail Polish Starter Kit costs £90, which is not unreasonable. You would pay about £10 more if you bought each element individually. These items are a great way to save money.

Quality

The items arrived in perfect condition and were well packed. The UV lamp is sturdy, looks exactly like one you’d find at a salon and I am impressed. It’s also great to have it in its own box, so it can be stored easily.

Pros of the Mylee Gel Nail Polish Kit:

It’s easy to fix

If you’re a clumsy painter (like me), gel nail polish is ideal. Gel nail polish allows me to quickly and easily clean up my mistakes, while also preventing the varnish from drying out if it isn’t fast enough.

It doesn’t dry immediately so you get a more polished look. It can be bubbly, or clumpy like regular polish. I am afraid to use too many strokes. It doesn’t appear to be an issue!

Mylee nail polishes have a smooth application and are very easy to use. To remove any gel that has gotten on my skin, I use a tiny brush to gently scrub it with the gel remover.

Super shine

Gel polish has a flawless finish. It’s impossible to achieve the same result with traditional nail varnish. This could just be me being a bad nail artist. It’s nice knowing that my home manicure will turn out great.

Mylee’s gel nail polishes have always been great and once they are dry, the shine is amazing. To see if the matte top coat is as good as the glossy, I would be open to trying out the Mylee Matte.

Long lasting

It’s a big deal for me as I am incredibly lazy with my nail art at home. When I feel motivated, I will spend an hour painting my nails. But sometimes it is just not possible for me to do so.

Gel polish can last me for 3-4 weeks without needing to be re-done. Mylee’s gel set has never caused any peeling or chipping. When new nail growth is apparent, I remove the polish.

The Cons of the Nail Polish Starter Kit

Limited Colour Selection

The starter kit comes with a limited selection of colours. This is my only complaint. I would love to be able to choose more colours, e.g. You can swap the 4 included polishes. I don’t like very bright or dark varnishes, so it’s unlikely that I will wear more than one of these colours.

Pink Ambition is my favorite, but Requiem For A Pink is what I will keep in the box. This is a beautiful shade. It just doesn’t fit my style.

Apart from that, I have zero complaints.

Is it worth the investment?

Although £90 can be expensive initially, it is definitely worth the investment in the end. You’ll pay the same amount as for a few visits to the nail salon.

It is a very useful kit that I keep around. I was able to use it during the COVID crisis. Gel nails are now easily accessible to people who cannot get to the salon, or who prefer to do them themselves.

A nail art set is a must-have for any nail artist, whether you are a seasoned pro or a novice. My nails are always complimented and I receive compliments all the time. The best thing about this kit is the fact that it takes half as much time to paint my nails than regular nail polish. These nail kits are amazing!
